Land transferred to ELCOT for TIDEL & IT parks in Madurai

A major portion of the land proposed for the construction of Information Technology (IT) Park and TIDEL Park in Madurai has been transferred to the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT).

The Government has issued orders transferring 8.81 hectares at Ilandhaikulam (near Pandikoil) and 16.02 hectares at Kinnimangalam (near Madurai Kamaraj University) to ELCOT.

Talking to The Hindu, ELCOT Managing Director, C. Umashankar, said one million square feet of IT space would be created with `plug and play' facility at the TIDEL Park site. Major players in the industry have expressed interest to set up their establishments.

 50 per cent booking over
"At least 50 per cent booking is already over," he said. Construction work would commence soon after the entire land is transferred to ELCOT.

"These projects will boost the economy of the State. The ELCOT will identify the infrastructure requirements for the IT Park and submit its recommendations to a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary," he added.

The Collector, T. Udhayachandran, said infrastructure in the Temple City would also get impetus as the IT/TIDEL Park projects took shape.

"The available infrastructure in Madurai is on par with the metros." Official sources said a private IT Park was also coming up on a 400-acre site on the city outskirts.
